If the applet was not loaded most likely you need to download and install Java 2 plugin (JRE 1.4.1 or higher). It's available at
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/.
Color for the shapes is randomly selected except you type it directly in "color" edit field like 255,0,0 (for red).
