Возражения

Возражения показывают что результат действий не совпал с ожиданиями.  В английском существует несколько способов выражения возражений:

1. Используя Подчинительные союзы

even though
although
though

–Even though it was hot, we wore our coats.

2. Используя СОЮЗЫ

but ... anyway
but ... still
yet ... still

–It was cold, but we still went swimming.

3. Используя ПРЕДЛОГИ

despite
in spite of

–They went skiing despite the warm temperatures.

А вот слова, которые выражают прямую противоположность:

1. ПОДЧИНИТЕЛЬНЫЕ СОЮЗЫ

whereas
while

–Paul is tall, whereas Richard is short.

–While Sue is industrious, Marie is lazy.

2. СОЮЗ

but

–The travel agent is tired, but she is still working.

3. ПЕРЕХОДЫ

however
on the other hand

–Carol is beautiful; however, she doesn't dress very well.

Whereas и while используются для выражения прямой противоположности; неважно, какая идея на первом месте, а какая – на втором; то же правило применяется к but / however / on the other hand.
